Leduc County - Facility Enhancements

This article provides a description on how the community of Leduc and ACE are teaming up for the expansion and building an enhanced fitness facility in the high school in order to create a variety of uses as well as attract a diverse amount of peoples who can use and enjoy the facility.
As I understand it there is already an existing facility that is only used by the high school students and is only opened for the duration of the school day. This takes away from those who are working adults who enjoy leading a healthy lifestyle as well as young teenagers who are attending junior high school.
This is interesting to me because I am surprised that the fitness facility is so “off-limits” to the public. It is necessary for the Leduc county to be given an equal opportunity for fitness and experience leisure if they so wish. I believe this is a huge move for Leduc County and I hope that they are able to maintain the facility as a popular place to work-out and receive the interest in the facility that they are hoping for.
I found it interesting in the article they mention the quality of life will hopefully improve for Leduc residents due to a healthier lifestyle. I believe that while the new facility will provide job opportunities it can also be used as a facility for community meetings, recreational activities, and several fitness classes and programs can be provided for these residents. Giving people an option to become healthy in a fitness facility is also a great way for the community to become more social and become stronger leaders that can communicate with each other for more options to improve their County and their community as a whole.
ACE is also planning of renovating the Thorsby Recreation Complex. This will include the purchase of new equipment through-out the Complex for the community members to utilize. The enhancement and revitalization of these two facilities will better the Leduc County as a whole because it will give those who use the facility the satisfaction that they are a part of their community and deserve to be recognized as that and use these facilities if they so wish.

  1. Cool article Megan! I grew up in a small town that did not have a fitness facility and the only gym was that of the high school in town, so I can totally relate to the people of Leduc as they celebrate the expansion of their high school gym. I didn't really realize how huge of a hole that is in a community until you mentioned it in this article. You have to be pretty creative to find ways to work out in a small town without a gym. Wahoo for Leduc!

  2. I think that this is going to be so beneficial for Leduc. Like Kristen, I too come from a small town and I always found it incredibly annoying to have to drive into the city to get to a decent gym. I think every community definitely needs a recreational facility. It gives way to so many positives like a healthy lifestyle and a positive social environment. And that is ridiculous that only the high school kids were allowed to use the only facility in town. Not cool. Great job Megan!

  3. Good work! I feel as though when you say “fitness facility is so “off-limits” to the public” is a very accurate description. Seeing that quality of life will be improved is something that I found fascinating. I always thought I came from a small town but to the point where you don’t have a gym is truly mind-blowing! I feel as though not only would it improve the quality of life but it could provide a platform for more (and larger) expansions within the community, especially if this one was really embraced by the majority! Very interesting topic Megan!

  4. This article certainly demonstrates how much a fitness facility is important. I like how you mentioned that it is much more than just a gym - a place where leaders of today and tomorrow can come and meet up. I am also surprised that Leduc did not already have one before, they will see a drastic change in their community and because of the new facility the residents of Leduc will see their community develop even more. Great entry!

  5. Great post. I've been a part of communities where even if you live only 15 minutes away, you weren't able to get the normal 'public' price because you were not living in the region. This alienates close-proximity residents, similar to leduc's facility only being open during school hours. I understand that managers are just trying to encourage current residents to join in their activities, with the safe notion of there always being enough spaces, but at the price of turning away others? Others who want to participate in a healthy lifestyle? Good on leduc for expanding and letting others be a part of the fun. Good mention of the socio-economical impact of expanding the facility as well!
